SPRING AND SUMMER WINES HAVE ARRIVED...I'M TALKING ROSE

WINTER is nearly a season of the past. In New York, the temperature was above 50 degrees and the sun was shining. Birds were singing!
And I was in the mood for those well crafted wines that denote the change of the season or in my case, the change of the grape.
GOOD BYE to the heavier grapes of the winter.
HELLO Grenache, Mouvedre and Carignan.
SPRING is in the air and today it was time to sample the range of light to full-bodied; pale to intense pink roses from the Vins de Pays Sud de France.
Stephanie Teuwen www.teuwen.com arranged a sampling of these seasonal wines for a select group.
Fortunately, I was one of the group and was well rewarded. There are several wines that stood out with price points that don't break the bank ($10-$15 bottle).
Please look for the following wines at your local wine shop or online.
The creme de la creme of the tasting was a very full-bodied, rather dark colored 2008bottle of Perles de Rose ($12) from Domaine de Bachellery www.bachellery.com and imported by Bayfield Importing of Long Island City, N.Y. This hearty rose was made from the grapes of grenache, Cinsault, Syrah and Muscat. It is a true masterpiece.
Other wines that stood out and are worth seeking out are the 2008 Le Champ des Grillons,($12) made from the Grenache and Syrah grapes; 2008 Domaine Montrose Rose
($10)> This true value wine is made from a mixture of Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.
Unfortunately, one of the better wines, 2008 Les Arches, made from Cinsault and grenache is currently not imported.
All of these wines match well with all types of food, especially spicy food from India; exotic food from Asia and most varieties of Europeon fare and cheese.
Enjoy the tastes of Vin de Pays before winter sets in.You will be very happy!
